Data are from the United States Department of Health and Human Services (US DHHS), Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Division of Vital Statistics (DVS) Linked Birth/Infant Death Records 2007-2016, as compiled from data provided by the 57 vital statistics jurisdictions through the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program, on CDC WONDER On-line Database. Silicon Valley data include San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. Infant mortality is the death of an infant before his or her first birthday. The infant mortality rate is the number of infant deaths per every 1,000 live births. Data by race and ethnicity indicate the maternal race/ethnicity (not the race/ethnicity of the infant). Black or African American, Asian or Pacific Islander, and White are Non-Hispanic.
